As you all know, the ICC World Cup 2015 starts on 14th February. The fifteen member Indian squad has been quite surprising due to the exclusion of key players in the last World cup like Man of the Tournament Yuvraj Singh, the person who smashed 175 against Bangladesh Virender Sehwag, the man who played a very crucial innings in the final Gautham Gambhir and India's best fast bowler in the last World Cup Zaheer Khan. Also, the God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar, who also scored the most runs for India in the last World Cup, and also the second highest run getter in the last World Cup, has retired after playing in 6 World Cups.
The Indian team that has been announced is as follows:
1. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain)
2. Virat Kohli (Vice Captain)
3. Suresh Raina
4. Rohit Sharma
5. Ajinkya Rahane
6. Shikar Dhawan
7. Ravindra Jadeja
8. Akshar Patel
9. Stuart Binny
10. Ambati Rayudu
11. Mohammad Shami
12. Ishant Sharma
13. Ravichandran Ashwin
14. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar
15. Umesh Yadav
MS Dhoni is often referred to as 'Captain Cool'. He is the man who hit the World Cup winning six for India in 2011. He is the most successful captain so far of the Indian Cricket Team. He is a quality batsman who is one of the best finishers of the world. It is not easy to maintain your average above 50 while batting at number six. He is also the most experienced player in this Indian squad.
Virat Kohli is in awesome form. He is just twenty six years old but has twenty one centuries in One Day Internationals. He has an awesome strike rate which is almost ninety. He is the best batsman in the Indian team ans arguably the best batsman in the world. He could be the best replacement India has got for Sachin Tendulkar. Recently, he surpassed Rahul Dravid in being the man who got the most runs for India in a Border-Gavaskar Series. Because of his awesome form, he has been named vice captain of Indian Team, after scoring an unbelievable 133* from just 86 balls in 2012 Commonwealth Bank Tri Series, when he was just 24 years old. He is also one of the best fielders in the team and has taken some stunning catches.
Suresh Raina is the second most experienced player in the Indian team, after MS Dhoni. Like Dhoni, he is also a finisher but he likes to bat at number three, where he can take some time to settle down and go on to play a big innings. Despite this, he is capable of batting at number two, three, four, five or six. He has been the best partner for Dhoni. He can bowl off spin andget useful wickets. He has been in good form for his IPL Team Chennai Super Kings, scoring a century in 2014 champions league final agains Kolkata Knight Riders, which enabled his team to win the cup. Like Kohli, Raina is also an awesome fielder an has taken stunning catches.
By scoring two double hundreds in One Day Internationals, Rohit Sharma has becomr the only player to do so in the history of cricket. His 209 against Australia and 264 against Sri Lanka are two of the best innings I have seen. In his 209 against Australia, Rohit broke Shane Watson's record for hitting the most sixes in a single One Day innings. He smashed 16 sixes whereas Watson hit 15 sixes in his 185*(96 balls) against Bangladesh. In his 264 against Sri Lanka, he broke Sachin's and Sehwag's record of hitting the most fours in a single ODI innings. Rohit hit 33 fours wheras Sachin and Sehwag hit 25 fours in their innings of 200 and 219* respectively. However both his double centuries have come in India and his form is not so good in foreign conditions. He is one of those players who can play both attacking and defensive cricket.
Ajinkya Rahane started his good form in cricket when he replaced Rohit Sharma in the One Day Series against England in 2014, when Rohit had a finger injury. Personally, he is my most favourite player in the Indian team. He is a batsman who can rotate the strike and anchor the innings. He is a good fielder and has taken some stunning catches. He has been the most impressive and successful batsman for his IPL Team Rajasthan Royals(which is my most favourite team in the IPL). Unlike his fellow teammates, he has got an orthodox style of batting and is always calm. He plays good cricket in foreign conditions. His century at Lord's helped India to pull off a historical victory, by beating England for the first tie at Lord's.
Shikar Dhawan can provide a left-right opening pair for India, with his partner being either Ajinkya Rahane or Rohit Sharma. He is a player who can play aggressive cricket and can provide a good start to their innings. He has played somegood knocks for his IPL Team, Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Ravindra Jadeja is one of the allrounders of the Indian Team. He bowls off spin effectively. He can score crucial runs towards the end of the innings. He is one of the best allrounders for his IPL Team, Chennai Super Kings. He can score runs quickly when wickets are falling at the other end, unlike other players who would look to defend their wicket. He cleared the fitness test after sustaining an injury, when many people thought that Yuvraj would get to play in the World Cup. He is one of the three players in the team who have got more than 100 wickets in ODIs. He is the leading wicket taker in the side in ODIs.
Akshar Patel is the new young talent in the Indian Team. He can be considered as a batting allrounder and a bowling allrounder. He done done well in all the International matches he has played for India till now. He is not an experienced bowler. He was awarded the emerging player award in IPL 2014.
Stuart Binny has been a surprise inclusion in the side. He has not played much International cricket. He has played good allround cricket for his IPL Team Rajasthan Royals, and that could be the reason why he is in the team. He hasalready got a 6 wicket haul in ODIs taking six wickets by giving away just four runs as India successfully defend 105 against Bangladesh.
Ambati Rayudu has been in good form for India recently. He is a good middle order batsman. He is one of the better batsmen od India in ODIs. He can set the tone for the finishers to come in and finish it off. He has played good cricket for his IPL Team Mumbai Indians.
Mohammad Shami is the second most experienced fast bowler in the Indian line up, after Ishant Sharma. He recently got a five wicket haul against Australia in the fourth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to me, he is the best fast bowler in the Indian Team. He has got the most wicketsfor India in One Day Internationals in 2014.
Ishant Sharma has been in spectacular form. He got a 7 wicket haul against England at Lord's in 2014 which helped India pull off a historic win. He is the only fast bowler in the Indian side who has taken more than hundred wickets in One Day Internationals. He is one of the Indian fast bowlers who can bowl really fast due to his height. He is a crucial bowler for India in Australian pitches that have a lot of bounce and favour fast bowling.
Ravichandran Ashwin is India's specialist spinner. Besides bowling, he can bat and has scored a test century against West Indies. He turns the ball and has a wide variety of spinning deliveries, including the carrom ball and the arm ball. He is the best spinner of his IPL Team, Chennai Super Kings.
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is a bowler who can take crucial wickets at crucial times. He is a good performer for his IPL Team, Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has got a wicket against Pakistan in the first ball that he bowled in One Day International Cricket.
Umesh Yadav is a bowler who has performed well when others have failed. It will be hard for him to ensure his spot in the team with the likes of other good bowlers like Mohammad Shami and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar.
This Indian team is a young and talented team. They don't have some great players the had in the last World Cup. There are only four such players(Dhoni, Kohli, Raina and Ashwin) who have played in the previous World Cup. Their main strength is their batting. If this Indian team play to their strengths, then they can win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
